Playback Theatre is entertainment and discovery rolled into one.  In creating a unique space to illuminate stories, and in acknowledging our experiences past and present, we can all reflect, share, laugh and wonder at this business of being human.

1. ATTEND A WORKSHOP:

The Unplanned Moment – Managing Uncertainty – Learn key improvisational skills at The Sydney School of Playback in May.  In The Unplanned Moment, you’ll learn how to think on your feet and respond authentically to unforeseen situations, and how to remain calm and creative in the unexpected moment. Taking place over one and a half days – 6.30pm-9.30pm Fri 22 May and 9am-5pm Sat 23 May – this workshop is useful for trainers, speakers, group leaders, facilitators and individuals.  Find out more info or book here

Workshop feedback –  It was a chance to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone in a positive environment. And I like that at the same time, most activities had an element of fun and play in them too. – Nikita 2014

Did You Know?  Playback offers workshops and training in Organisations too, including Empathetic Listening, Storytelling, Personal Presence for Public Speaking and Presentations, Ensemble Work for Teambuilding and more. Alternatively, Playback can tailor a specific workshop to address a particular need in the group or team – this is especially useful during times of organisational change or transition – more here

Term 4 Skills Workshop – Empathetic Listening Oct 21 – Dec 2  2015
Playback Theatre is essentially a model for Empathetic Listening. Later this year, Sydney School of Playback will run their second Empathetic Listening workshop after the success of the first one. The focus is the art of dynamic listening – how to hear both the spoken, and unspoken, language and how to encourage others to speak up and say what they really want to say. This course is for those who want to develop their listening skills in a creative way – actors, facilitators, public speakers, counsellors or leaders. If you currently run workshops, work in HR, or talk to groups of people, this course is for you.  By the end of this 6 week workshop you will feel enlivened, enriched and able to listen in a whole new way!  Find out more

2. COME ALONG TO A SHOW:

Sharing Real Stories – Playback Theatre Shows are moving and real – thanks to all of you. Witness a Playback Show and you’ll glimpse the lives of others and reflect upon your own. You’ll see stories come to life with movement, music and dramatic tension – and you’ll take away a renewed appreciation and understanding of our shared human experience.

Playback Theatre Sydney will be performing on Sunday 31 May at the King Street Theatre 5.00pm-6.30pm. We haven’t set a theme for this show, so we’ll start in the present moment – as we always do – and let the theme emerge in a fluid and spontaneous manner… and enjoy whatever the evening will bring! Make sure you put it in your diary and book online now (credit cards) – or buy tickets at the door on the night (cash only). Why not invite your friends along too – so you can enjoy a drink at the bar afterwards, or eat at a King Street restaurant, and continue to share your stories with eachother.

Upcoming Shows – May 31, July 26, August 30, October 25, December 6 Book online now!

3. GOING GLOBAL:

International Conference in Montreal – We’re thrilled that four of our Playback Company will be heading to Canada mid-year for the Playback Theatre International Conference. Every second year, with a new host nation, the 30+ Playback Companies from around the world meet up to share stories, ideas and expertise – as well as discover how Playback is used in different countries and contexts. We’ve been invited to run a Workshop and do a Performance – for our peers – so we’re pretty chuffed!  More info in our next newsletter in June.

Sharing the News – Thank you for your interest in Playback Theatre and the shows and skills we offer.  We hope you can share your interest with others by forwarding this email onto your friends or colleagues and suggesting they sign up to our newsletter too – click here. We hope they will join us in sharing and enjoying illuminating stories with Playback Theatre Sydney.
